KNEE

Knee conditions and injuries are the most common reason for an initial visit to Walnut Creek Sports Medicine and Orthopedics. The knee is the largest joint in the body and relatively complex. It consists of four bones that are stabilized and controlled by a precise network or muscles and ligaments. Cartilage both protects the knee and provides a smooth surface for the bones to slide frictionlessly against each other while walking. All of the structures mentioned are susceptible to injury and/or degeneration. Knee problems can be divided into two categories: those caused by general "wear and tear" and acute injuries due to a single traumatic event like a hit during a football game or a misstep that causes the knee to twist unnaturally. Dr. William Workman is a fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist and has delivered outstanding care for both amateur and professional athletes for almost two decades. His expertise in arthroscopic surgery allows for a minimally invasive approach to almost all knee problems. Some of the more common knee conditions treated at Walnut Creek Orthopedic and Sports Medicine include:

  • Arthritis of the knee (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid, inflammatory)

  • Fracture related to the knee

  • Knee sprains & strains

  • Meniscal tears & injuries

  • Patellofemoral Syndrome

  • Patella tendon tears

  • ACL tears

  • PCL tears

  • Iliotibial Band Syndrome
